This is misleading. The sound is captured from side on. The turbines produce more noise on the rear side. And out at Karara, where you can hear a pin drop at night, these turbines will be noisy.

I don’t believe a single blade would be that heavy, maybe the entire top unit.

I thought that too, maybe there is a decimal point missing in the article.

I must agree though, that sound would get old quick.

For a 1.5-MW turbine, typical blades should measure 110 ft to 124 ft (34m to 38m) in length, weigh 11,500 lb/5,216 kg and cost roughly $100,000 to $125,000 each. Rated at 3.0 MW, a turbine's blades are about 155 ft/47m in length, weigh about 27,000 lb/12,474 kg and are valued at roughly $250,000 to $300,000 each

I think the 22 tonnes sounds about right if they are longer than 47m

Hi guys I’m working at the far end of the wind farm near Leyburn where the 330 kv transmission line feeds back into the existing grid from Millmeran power station some 70 klms away. I heard a rumour a while back they had decided to double the size of the farm. So I googled it just now. Not sure if you guys are aware but it has been announced the wind farm Will be doubling in size. Not sure when or any details of the new footprint so don’t ask me but google has the announcement if you’re interested. Cheers

It seems the premier has announced the “Herries Range “ wind farm so an additional 180 ( approx) turbines will be installed to bring the total capacity from 1000 Meg to 2000 meg. It will be absolutely enormous! Going for my first swing out there Friday next week, hopefully scrape up some colour. Cheers.

Those turbine blades are ginormous!

It seems it is in the DA stage at the moment located around Karara from what I can gather from google but I can’t seem to find an exact footprint or detailed proposed map to get any detailed info. Hopefully it doesn’t affect existing GPAs in the area but it’s impossible to speculate untill confirmed locations are put forward.

So are the turret sections, that’s 3 high powered semi trucks towing a section up a hill on the last wind farm I worked on. It does seem Herries Range is a long way from the GPAs thankfully after a quick google just now.
