On the way back to the city so I stopped at Creswick near campground 2.
Got this giant quartz bit with a bit of gold in it and a couple of small bits.
Don't have a funds jar so I've had to put the 2 bits in my tobacco pouch.
Hope I don't end up smoking them lol

On the second piece, is that gold insitu in the quartz or is it a bit of alluvial stuck to the quartz with some mud? Or is it a bit of both? Hard to tell from the photos but it looks like two rounded alluvial bits stuck and 2 reefy bits that are actually part of the quartz…?

I think they are all in the quartz @Northeast . I tried to pick them out on site but they wouldn't budge. I'll try again in the morning.
I'll crush it and see. I don't think there is much in there. That's probably about it. It was the only side the detector was going of on.

or flicking them out in the dark thinking they are a bit of stem:eek::oops:
I got em @sand surfer . I was sure I found another bit making 3 all up but I couldn't find that tiny bit and I started thinking the heat had gotten to me. Got it in the end. Just smoked more lol

Remember over in Meekatharra some years ago getting a distinct signal from one side of a large quartz boulder. Just didn’t have anyway to smash the gold out of it and It was far too large for me to carry back to the car so I just turned it over so the signal side was face down and just left it there.
A few years later on my next trip I found the boulder again, rolled it back over and the signal was still there.
Had a mate with me this time and we got it back to where we had some more effective rock breaking tools In the car. Brushing a bit of dirt away from the boulder to see if we could spot the gold, the signal vanished.
The gold had just been a nugget stuck to the outside of the boulder by clay.
Could have been a disaster if it had fallen off anytime while we were busting our guts rolling/carrying it about a hundred yards.
