I agree my wife wanted french doors across our back deck and it took at least 12 cans to do it forget the time to paint the damn things-8 windows per pane times 8----phew!!!

MB learnt the hard way many years ago to make sure the Telstra shop you purchase from is NOT A Telstra Franchise shop. Telstra any issue no problem with replacement or to have problem rectified. Privately owned Telstra shop equals a nightmare. In short purchased a top of the range phone and had to take it back next day as it was faulty. They said leave it with us and you will have it back in approx three weeks. My reply was I have a better idea, which is refund me now and I'll go and buy from elsewhere.

Well right now I’m hating on Victoria. 32 degrees yesterday and now it’s 11, windy and raining. Who should have to light the fire after a 32 degree day.
Probably should go in whinge of the day.
Whilst on that topic got kicked out of the shed this arvo as the thrushes that are nesting in there didn’t take kindly to my grinding away. I like them so finished up and left them in peace.

Our temp will go higher but our humidity is low enough that we usually only need evaporative AC for nice cool air with windows and doors open.

Stripping paint from the old hope chest
Onto the second coat first side..

Lid striped down and sanded back

Rear side of the chest paint removed and sanded.

3 sides to go

Outside is coming along nicely , tomorrow I’ll start stripping back the inside of the f the chest to get it back to the natural wood, after that l need to prepare some wood putty to fill in all the gauges and other imperfections.. really need to address the area where the wood has deteriorated around the hinges , that’s going to be tricky..

Cut yourself a small plywood jig which you can then clamp against the hinge rail as a guide for your chisel to give you a nice clean sharp edge. Glue in a new block, sand, keeping any dust to mix with glue and fill any gaps etc. Luckily with it being at the back it shouldn’t be too visible, particularly as it will be hidden under the hinge knuckle.

Not sure what species it is Manpa, it has a slight redish tinge to it

Nucopia, I would wax it. Natural and will bring outthe colour. Use 0000 steelwool to rub it in. Mackka

Yeah i never thought to use beeswax

Lanolin does a very nice job. It soaks in so you need to reapply it a couple of times over a few weeks. If you put too much it buffs of nicely to a waxy type polish.

I am inclined to avoid applying a commercial wood stain and your suggestion gives me another option to enhance the color instead of covering it with something out of a tin

You can try the lanolin option on some spare timber to see if you're happy with it. I use it all over the place and soak my new pick handles in it. The floors of the old wool sheds show well it waterproofs and preserves timber.
