New England family looking to strike it RICH :)

Hi folks, we're a family of nine (mum, dad and 7 kids) living in the New England area (in NSW - not the the northeast US version). We're planning a short road-trip around the central north of NSW after Christmas 2022 that will hopefully include some decent fossicking, panning, etc. The kids don't really care what they dig up - gold, diamonds, dinosaurs, etc. The plan is to head west through Armidale up to Lightning Ridge perhaps, then down to Walgett, then Dubbo and finally back to Armidale. We'll spend a couple of nights at each stop. I will do some research into possible prospecting sites along these routes, but any hints, tips or suggestions would be most welcome. I will come back to the site and let you all know where we find our biggest nugget

Yeah, thanks for the comment, Mackka. We've done a couple of day-trips over to Inverell and will continue to do so into the future. The plan this time was to go further inland just for the sheer pleasure of all that heat and dust, as well as to explore a bit more of the state. I figure if everyone else is heading for the coast at Christmas then we should go in the opposite direction

just a suggestion, but I would not be staying at Walgett, yes stop for fuel and keep going, Lightning Ridge is excellent and well worth a few days stop there, also Grawin and Glengarry are all opal areas, but it will be hot at that time of year

Welcome to the Forum Goldfinger. Keeping to creeks and rivers would be the go at that time of the year especially with the kids. Gold and gems will be a bonus so I hope good luck follows you around on the adventure.

G,day mate, I used to live in Glen Innes and the area is a paradise for gem/monerel hunters. Have a look at Torrington and Blatherarm Creek, for topaz, I have 2 x 50 carat crystals that I found in the creek

Have a good look around at torrington , as i got a few emeralds up there in the early 90s
