G'day guys my name's Nikki and I'm new to the game. I live near Port Augusta in South Australia and would love to know if there are any mullock heaps or gold fields that I'm allowed to access without to much trouble. I know South Australia is backwards when it comes to metal detecting and its laws but I'm still hopeful 🙏🤞I've been looking at going to Burra possibly? Any way let me know guys. Thank you in advance.

Hi Nikki.
I feel for our SA members sandwiched between Vic and WA.
Maybe have a think about venturing into a camper or small van. A great life being able to get out and stay about.
The Heart of the Vic goldfields would be about a day and a half from PA And Kalgoorlie a more challenging 3 days.
Learning to be safe and comfortable towing your own accommodation will, I am sure lead you enjoying the get away life and will take you to areas where you can explore and enjoy prospecting and other adventures.

Hi Nikki,

Do not be put off I spend 95% of my time in S.A. and you have choices not too far from home in the Flinders Ranges you just need to do some research we don't have the amount or size of nuggets that our adjourning states have but they are there just a bit more work is needed and lots of research I do all my fossicking in the Mid North these days on private property.

Regards, Ian.

I just got back from a week in Vic, wrong time of year, lol. 4 snakes in 2 hours, 2 almost trod on. Then I had to wear a mosi proof long sleeve shirt and head net.

I normally trip in winter twice a year for 4 -6 weeks. Although I've done Mt Crawford many times, never found any yella. Closest place for us is the Golden Triangle in Vic. :)

Ah if only I could get onto some of the properties 🤞 it seems the only way but not many people are accommodating these days. I can't really afford to travel so I'll stick with researching the flinders and surrounding area. Wish me luck 🤞🙏⛏️

One big difference between here in S.A. and VIC - In VIC there are many areas of "State Forrest" much of which is gold country. With Miners Rights, access is not restricted and is free, including camping pretty well anywhere in them. Then there are certain parts of State Parks and even National Parks that are detectable (check maps from Parks Vic for locations) and within them a number of designated camping grounds, all free camping in the GT.

Whereas in S.A. the only State forest detecting areas are Mt Crawford (limited access and it costs to enter and camp), Jupiter Creek and Chapel Hill, which are not the best. Why? because Mt C is owned by Forestry S.A. and logged. Detecting in National Parks is prohibited here. Hence my tripping to VIC every year. :)

I think I'll be doing the same thing. Saving up to go to Victoria one day. I'm a pov ass so yer it won't be for a long time 😂 thank you for the advice

Forget my favourite Chapel Hill mate has been completely fenced for over a year and you can’t get in because of open shafts.
Crawford has been my unlucky hunting ground for some strange reason.

Jupiter Creek really has been genuinely flogged now and very difficult to find a bit a day. I wrote to SA water with them opening the reservoirs to fishing I asked why not the adjacent land between there and Jupiter Creek expanded for gold detecting? No reply !

Nanny State ! Time your trips for weather and a swag is good enough, head to the GT or Tibooburra .
