Hi all,
Absolute newbie to this awesome hobby. Located in Cairns.
Although I have found nothing but cans and railway sleepers, I'm still enjoying getting out and about.
I'm on the hunt (as most) for some gold!
So far I've tried all through kamerunga and have found nothing... hoping someone can shed some light on a few good places to go, hoping for places in and around cairns as I believe some places up north are still unaccessible (thanks covid19!)
Appreciate it guys, cheers :goldnugget: :pickshovel:

What kind of detector have you got? If it's waterproof I'd hit the tourist beaches I know I'd be keen to!

Hi Bilby7,

Get 10 posts up then you will be able to access the members only section. The Cairns members meet up about every 2 months at the Red Beret for some social time. Welcome to the forum.

Cheers

Doug

Bilby7,

If you can detect railway sleepers, you dont need our advice mate, :perfect:

Seriously, though, if youre just starting out, drive down to Cleremont and have a days tuition from JP,

Phil

Hey Bilby7,

Have you seen NZ gold hunter's post - this I've copied and pasted for you below. Maybe you two could meet up and have a chat as it seems you're both looking for the same thing. I'm gonna try and be up there in Cairns on the 17th but but various things are working against that happening for me atm. Cheers Mr Tee

"Hi All, interesting reading here.... well I coming over from NZ to drive up Cape York for a couple of weeks. I then have 4 precious days to look for gold. I have booked at Palmerville 19th to 23rd July. Anyone keen to come along as would much prefer two people. I have a 4wd ute and am leaving from Cairns so all good on that front.
Otherwise any pointers on where to go? Is there a better place to head to than palmerville?"

That's from NZ gold hunter^^^

Finding your first gold can be a bit of a worry for someone keen but not yet expert or resourced enough. How about getting on the “colour” with a bit of panning. Maybe easier and will certainly keep up your enthusiasm.
