Went for a drive today out to Grass Gully near Yalwal to have a look around some of the old timers mines. Have lived in the area for 51 years and up until today never really went out just to look.
All the gold from this area is reported to come from rock crushing and there are a lot of diggings and test areas, amazes me to see where they did dig, guessing they must have done a lot of loaming before they decided to dig.
Anyway I found a few areas and items that I didn't even know existed in the area
This picture of a lone rock that was gravel within a bed of clay, just sitting above one of the diggings on top of a hill, on its own
Down a small track and it lead to what I think might have been the home of the crusher, the steel has long gone
Further down towards the creek there is a little dam wall and judging by the size of rock used it would fit the era of gold mining in the area
Still signs of old steel tubing laying around, but Mother Earth is slowly claiming it all back. To think I use to ride motorbikes pass this area every weekend (30 years ago) and didn't know all this history was only a few meters off the track.
