I had a couple of miners johns coils when I had my TDI OZ Pro. I found the coils to be good, easy to GB and had no issues with them at all.

Welcome, I fully agree with RM Outback regarding detectors. Whites are about to release (Next Month - Tomorrow, I believe) a new Detector for prospectors. This is a good hobby and one I am sure the kids will enjoy, especially playing in the water when panning.

I am not an owner of an SDC2300. I will need to get it out to prove that it works and finds the yellow stuff. If it does, and by looking at the videos, I may need to get someone with a GM1000 to go over ground I visit, to see if I missed anything.

Most time when you fly they are more worried about the weight of your carry on bags and if it will fit in the locker or by your feet. Yes the batteries could be a problem. If you have trouble with your bags, I would look at a possible alternative, i.e. disposable 'C' cells as a fall back...
