one last thing is I find heaps of these stones while seiving and panning at chapel hill, they are always the same shape and about the same size. Any clues?

Hey all, was wondering if this is epidote? Also what is the black fiberous mineral thats on it? I also found some garnets in the same area. Any ideas would be great. Thanks. Matt?
