Wet Prospecting Shovels - information and questions

I’ve got a pick that’s ultra reliable and I love. Over the 20 years I’ve had it, I’ve replaced the head twice and the handle three times but it never gives up and just keeps on going….. ;-)

    Quote Of The Day

It’s better to judge a man not by the answers he gives, but the questions he asks (Confucius, I believe)

    Xterra 705 ring find!

I’ve got an Xterra 505 and a 305 and I’ve found different carats of gold give different readings (numbers). This would be due to the different levels of gold purity in the different targets. I don’t pay too much faith in going by numbers alone with my Xterra.

Can someone identify this? Some sort of resin?

Just pointing out that ambergris and amber are unrelated items. Amber is transformed tree sap or resin. Ambergris is from the digestive tracts of whales.

    Identification Badge Found

I’d suggest going to the Transport Heritage NSW website. THNSW seems to be a large, professionally run group focussed on more than just trains (as opposed to the Rail Museum). Lots of train buffs there who could probably tell you intimate details of what you have. As an ex-railway worker myself...

    Identification Badge Found

I gotta agree with grubstake, but the SWG is actually NSWGR (New South Wales Govt. Railways) with the first and last letters ”clipped” off the ticket. There’s also another clipping done on the right hand side of your badge too. I suspect the clippings were done to activate and / or annul this...

Down the beach with the Sovereign

That last find (torch with 5 rings) is a members badge for the Central Coast Leagues Club in Gosford. I used to have one when I was a member and they stopped doing them in the ‘80s when they switched to ID cards.
