Worked in the Alumina industry for 30+ years, converting bauxite to alumina. Alcoa has their own power stations to cope with the power draw. We went from coal to gas and wouldn't even try to think how this process would cope with wind, solar etc.
Moving forward the above process is power hungry but when we move forward to a aluminum smelter the electricity consumption is mind blowing.
Do we stop aluminium production to keep our planet heading to doomsday?
The level of electricity consumed by an aluminium smelter creates a very significant baseload demand. For example, a smelter with an annual output of 300,000 tonnes will require around 4,440 GWh of electricity.
A guru out there will maybe correct me but my calculations, 1GW would power approx 700,00 homes?
Bring back to Coolgardie safe and the bower shed or we will never survive............

Ouch! It is 14 MWh hours per tonne of aluminium produced on average, so 14 GWh per 1000 tonnes, so I guess around 300,000 tonnes annual production for your figure.. Point Henry reached 192,000 tonnes before closure - so sounds pretty much correct to me. About 3% of the world's annual electricity generation goes into producing aluminium.

think all of these things are underplayed.

You can't use any language that is not P C these days Mackka but at least we old timers speak the same speak and know what you mean.šŸ—£
You guys are amateur's 'I think I'm on my 57th Facebook band for this year so far' speaking the truth and facts that goes against their beliefs isn't aloud either. .Once you upset the snowflakes that police FB comments 'that's it your on their watch list. It then recognises certain words like cull and anyrhing else that insinuates bulling, hate or harassment to others '
Apparently you can't call your mate a dirty dog either šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

A friend who is an ambo attended a pretty distressing fatality a week ago. She sent me a message via Facebook messenger and it was blocked and she was cautioned as it was considered harassment and bullying. So even private messages are monitored.

I have been censored on Facebook for (a) making a joke about it being cheaper to drive away without paying and face a fine rather than pay for petrol nowadays (joke, guys, joke!), (b) pointing out that one could use rubbing alcohol rather than hand sanitizer when no hand sanitizer was available (it is the only active ingredient in most hand sanitizer and I am a geochemist) and (c) quoting the IPCC report on climate change (I can only assume they classed me as a "denier" despite me quoting IPCC verbatim - they could not even get their own prejudices correct - duh!). It is also being used to censor accurate history in favour of the invented variety (and I am not referring to Trump issues but accurate records by historians and documents of the day).

I suspect the censorship is largely done by software not humans - I objected re the censorship of the joke, it was reinstated, and a day later censored again. I then reworded it to say exactly the same thing and it was not rejected....Definitely social engineering by a dumbass computer....

Sadly I have heard similar censorship on the ABC by simply cutting off callers in mid-sentence - once again callers giving accurate history (but then again the ABC is flogging a book that turns hunter-gatherers into farmers who arrived in Australia 75,000 years before the first Homo sapiens left the vicinity of Africa by misquoting historical records).

It is sad that the media is now influencing politics, changing history and falsifying science to suit popular demand and sometimes minority pressure groups. And I say that as a politically middle-of-the road Ozzie who accepts some measures against extreme racism, misogyny and stirring of violent social unrest.

I hope I am allowed to say the above, no offence intended to anyone but people should be aware of censorship....:oops::oops:

There are some very sensitive people out there. I was told by a pc person a while back that they dont like me using the word Black Boy to describe the plant I was looking for and I now should refer to them only as Grass Trees. I think for people like this being offended at every thing gives them a small amount of power they lack in there life and that gets them off some how.

Just my experience with being cautioned and having my Facebook post removed was during the height of COVID.
In commenting on the WAā€™s insistence on a hard border for so long, I likened it to the legend of the little Dutch boy putting his finger in the dyke to hold back the flood! I said that I didnā€™t think there would be as good an outcome when he removed his finger as in the story.
I should have been less naive.

Be glad they don't make you say Xanthorea australis as punishment. Not as bad as Coon cheese being forced to change its name, which was named after Mr Coon who established the Coon technique of cheese-making. They agreed that it was insulting, despite it being someones birth name and nothing to do with being derogatory (look in the white pages it is full of Coons - or can't I even say that)? They are not allowed to complain about their name being called insulting. I have never since bought a packet of Cheer cheese as I was not amused. Canadian-owned anyway....

"Cheer (stylised as CHEER), formerly marketed as Coon, is the Australian trademark of a cheddar cheese (known as "tasty" in Australia) produced by the Warrnambool Cheese and Butter company, which is majority-owned by Canadian dairy company Saputo Inc."

I am a bit ambivalent about blackboy, simply because I do think boy was an inappropriate and slightly insulting term that was used for adults and it was assigned to a tree because it looked like an aborigine holding a spear. I have ceased using it myself. However I would not criticize anyone for using it, and I am not sure that my indigenous friends would bother to either (they still talk about blackfellas). It will die a natural death. Most of these disapprovals are generated in anthropology departments of universities - one can tell from context and expression whether someone is trying to insult you or not.

I lectured at a university that said no lecturer could use any word in lectures that had "male" as part of the word (including "female," and ignoring that when "male" was invented it meant both genders not just men, and that half the words in English that have it in them do not come from a previous language where it meant gender but from another language that meant "hand". Yep, I gave them a run for their money - I said that cowperson was fine with me but that I thought it a bit wierd to say that I was walking along the street and fell into an open personhole. Noone smiled - such people don't - and I was told that I was not taking misogyny seriously. I told them they seemed misandrist, but they seemed not to understand My wife laughed when i told her....

How about Golden Gay Time? Just thought I would throw that one in there. If we are going to be insulted by Americanisms like the c word for a type of cheese we must stop also saying "Cracker" biscuits too lol. And god forbid you ask for " coon cheese on a cracker biscuit " Could probably end up doing some prison time for that.

Coon cheese was in our weekly shop, we have now moved on since the ludicrous name change.

Coles have reduced the price on over 400 items, yahoo, fantastic, ah, how much off each item? Well that depends, of course on the product but i believe most are their own brand. Understand that that reported a $3+Billion profit.
Australia Post is considering closing 25 of their operations without ANY consideration for the elderly and thats on their reported profit of $6Billion. Fair suck of the Sav! Mackka

Are you sure Coles said "reduced"? All I've seen is that they've locked prices until 31st January 2023, not that they've reduced them at all.
