The dealer is your first port of call, as under Australian consumer law it's his job to handle any warranty issues. Chances are it won't be the first one your dealer has seen and as mbasko says above, Minelab have been repairing them very promptly.

Okay, thanks. I'll contact them tomorrow if connecting the coil firmly doesn't work.
The 6000 seems to be having a lot of problems, but as mentioned Minelab have been good with the warranty side of things. That's why I'm waiting until next year and these problems may have been sorted out by then.

Wow, that is a serious disappointment right there. This 6000 reliability issue has really got me spooked on a possible purchase down the track, if they can’t correct this problem.
I realise it’s a random thing, but it is like playing lotto with $8k.

I had a similar problem with my 5000 one time but not as bad. Realised that it was my Garret pinpointer causing the problem....
Wasted half a day working that out.

Seeing that you've used both coils and the sounds the 6000 is making seems more like a control box issue. One user had a control box issue, so what he did was open the speaker compartment and inside is a screw that he tightened which fixed the problem.
I'm not too sure if yours is like this, so maybe hold the control box tightly and give it a light shake to make sure there's nothing loose inside?
Also you need to be aware that the coil cable MUST be tightened securely, as this can cause noise issues as well

Yesterday I ran an indoor test of my GPX 6000.
Using the supplied Bluetooth connected headphones with max volume.
With room lights including one noisy fluorescent light ON and nearby computer ON the EMI noise with the 11” Mono coil is almost unusable at any settings.
With the 14” Double D coil; Max Sensitivity without Threshold ON it is almost silent; With Threshold ON it has a normal level of EMI noise (similar to the 11” Mono EMI level in open country).
It detected a sub-gram nugget a few inches from the coil with no problem.
My Galaxy A10e phone which I carry with me when detecting (Turned ON) causes no problems when rubbed against the Control Head or the Detector Housing. It is detected as a target when moved over the coil.
It appears that the electronics shielding in my GPX 6000 and the 14” coil cable are working quite well.
Also with the 14” Double D coil I have been able to detect directly under cross country high voltage power lines with little EMI noise.

Well, today I put the 11 inch coil on and gave it a shot (have tried all 3 coils now). When I first turned it on, it played up slightly but nothing like in the videos. Then it seemed to be working fine for about 15-20 minutes and then this happened:
I turned it off, but it behaved the same way once I turned it back on. I noticed yesterday also that it went crazy after about 15-20 minutes, so it doesn't like to perform once it warms up.
I'm now 100 percent convinced I have a faulty machine and will contact dealer shortly.

it's a dud alright, I would not have waited as long or been as patient as you before sending it back, that is a seriously flucked machine, and maybe one or so of the coils as well but there is no way of telling while the machine is like that.

It's a worry indeed because I thought I treated it well. I never knocked it around or left it outside overnight or anything like that. I travel around Australia a lot, and it will be annoying if it breaks down again after this one is fixed/replaced. Luckily I'm not far from the place of purchase now.
Sounds like a warranty issue. Minelab are very good for warranty so hopefully it is a simple replacement of machine
That would be much appreciated if it's the case, Houdini, because I was planning on travelling to Queensland soon.

I tried a 6000 around Leinster and it was fine for 3 days but the weather became overcast ànd the detector became unusable. I thought it must be the weather but someone said it could be because people were using 7000s close by. Not sure of the actual cause. Luckily it was only hired for the 5 days
The sooner you get it back to Minelab, the sooner they will fix it or get another back to you.
Have had many Minelab detectors over the years and only one dud - a 3000 which they quickly replaced for me.
They are pretty good like that.

Yep, pretty well a shut case now.
Get the dealer to get it back to Minelab ASAP. Senseless testing coils on other machines etc. now. I'm confident Minelab will want the whole package, including coils, back anyway so they can check everything then repair/replace as required.
Thanks Dickie, but I already handed it in to my dealer today. It's being sent to Adelaide for testing. My dealer passed on this thread to the Minelab guy who test them, so hopefully I'll get a replacement. It doesn't play up until it's been used for a while, but I think the videos I made are pretty convincing that it's sick.
