We finally bought a new 4x4 dual cab ute after our ever reliable Ford Ranger Started Using oil after 385000 kms, after much research we set ourselves the task of buying a near new Isuzu Dmax, its an excellent tow vehicle and as it turned out the price was in our range after selling our Ranger, its 2017 model 6 speed auto trayback, we had a aluminium 3 door cab fitted and were ready to go, our first trip was east of Kambalda and the f#@$%n DPF warning light came on and kept coming on every 30-100 kms, about near the Higginsvill turnoff the vehicle went into limp mode and would not change up from 2nd gear, luckilly i had a OBD reader in the toolbox a leftover from the Ranger and plugged it in and found the code P1471 which is the code for a blocked DPF, this happed throughtout our prospecting trip on Mount Monger station so after three days we packed up and returned home, we went to the local Isuzu Dealer and they were very helpfull and said its a problem that is quite a problem with most newer diesel vehicles and a replacement would cost in the vicinity of approximatley $1600.00 fitted to do it as it was still in the warreny period they would need all of the service reciepts to see if the incorrect oil was used, i thought thats just there way to get out of replacing it and i worried this could be a ongoing problem the same as the Rangers Egr probs which i blocked off and had it remapped.I must also say most of the newer generation of spare parts fitters will not remove the DPFS, Me being old school (52 years in the trade thought there had to be a way out!
I spent the next week or so looking on every site i could find being a retired motor mechanic i found out they were a disaster on all makes, one of my mates was on his second unit on a v8 landcruiser, another mate had a 2019 dmax and told me had bit the bullet and taken his off and sat with a permanent engine light on, which i decided was not for me after more reseach i found a Australia wide company offering a delete pipe and dyno remap to delete the process, on the way home yesterday after having it done i could not believe the power difference and also the fuel economy of the blue beast, we have gone from 92 odd kws at the back wheels to just shy of 120kws, plus the fuel economy has improved from around 10.3 litres to 8.2litres per 100 kms meaning a 725 km trip perth to Esperance is now done on one tank (70l) and still have 165kms range, left to say i am impressed is an understatement, to Chris the computer geek ( his explanation) on the dyno mate you are a whizz kid.
Has anyone else had the dreaded Dpf problems :8    ? inspection inside and the screening material is what appears to be ceramic and is blocked with carbon! and the holes are around 2 mm in size has to be the worst design ever almost as bad as the dreaded EGR, Which we also had deleted in keeping our oil and intake cleaner!

My son warned me of these DPF problems when I was considering replacing our bus. He said the vehicles running Add Blue were a better option. It brings me back to the 70's and 80's when the world went mad on emission systems on vehicles. We got things like exhaust gas recirculation, how many V6 Nissan diesels did that blow up? My 1971 Chrysler Galant used to do 44 mpg if driven quietly. Later models with pollution reducing devices fitted were lucky to achieve 35 mpg.

Anyway these things are designed for more over populated areas and not needed in Australia. The emission tests are done while the DPF is collecting the high pollutants and not when the big burn-off is done every so often sending a sooty cloud over all following vehicles.

It must take somebody really smart to work out how you can use more fuel for less pollution :argh:

Got mine in October, MY21, already went in, they claimed a software upgrade and a manual clean, who really knows if they did.

Whilst under warranty I have no inlination to modify it, and then there is of course the insurers position to be considered. Otherwise it seems just on fuel efficiency alone a modification and tune would seem worthwhile.

Interesting to me is while towing around 1.8 to 2 tonnes on open roads I can get down to as low as mid 7s, even a bit lower as the readout tends to be inaccurate to the higher side. Almost without fail it will be in the 10.2 to 10.4 range unloaded per tank trip, but the actual fuel used is always less than that. I have no doubt it would be possible to do both, increase power and economy in the stated range.

I had a 71/72 Colt, it was an awesome little car,

If I drive my Van gently it will do 26k/L it has achieved 22.6k/L, My brother's VW has a 2.0L TDI and it does about 67mpg/23.69k/L, Mine has a DPF and my Brothers has Add Blue.

I would like to buy one of the new Transit's because there are some nice Camper conversions for those. :Y:

Too much text to read in a block for me!!
Good luck though with whatever it is you are trying to achieve!

No problems here with mine (18 dmax) but i am interested in knowing who done the tune and dpf delete,a tune is on the cards for ours and a lot rave about reaper performance in perth,i'm not sure if they do the dpf delete though,it is illegal,pm me with the details of your tuner if they don't want it advertised it's on there menu...

I have the good old Ford Ranger 2016 make 3.2 litre engine i had to replace the sensor that screwed into the exhaust manifold at 95,000 km ford quote $240 fixed it myself $72 , then the 65mm hose from the intercooler split called a wrecker quote was $150 wow rang a ford dealer.. about $110... another ford dealer $92 easy install ,,, then my apprentice mechanic gives me a can of spray for diesals engines only ,,, with japanese writing on the can,,, take the sensor off the throttle body,, rev the donk to 3,000 rpm and spray in half a can ,,, that's the way they do it these days ,,,, spray and clean,,,, all the servos that sell add blue... none in stock ... the mechanics say go down the highway for a while,, the exhaust heat will burn off the crap that builds up with city driving ,, my battery is still good 590 cranking amps left out of 720, belong to nrma roadside assist,,, accidentally left the parkers on the other night for 5 hours, and yes battery voltage down to 9.5 volts ,,, no start , 120,000 on the clock,,, the only issues i have is when its cold, 10 degrees or lower, the tech pack freezes until the cabin warms up,,, can't use it ,,, now for those alien messages front camera blocked ,,, doesn't have front cameras,,, downhill assist not working ,,,, anti collision not working,,, lol lol ,,, computers ,,, just replaced the front pads the mongrel at the tyre shop used the rattle gun when i had tyres fitted,,, if i was in the bush now way you would undo the wheel nuts make sure you can undo them with your wheel brace cost me $20 for a 19mm impact socket,,, hammered it onto the wheel nuts and had to use a pipe extension on the sidchrone bar ooohhh i can hear you say why didn't u use you sidchrome socket,,, i did it snapped in 2 ,,,,, the wheel nuts are steel with a stainless cover that cover gets damaged when rattled lol the brace is rendered useless,,,, i have had 4wd people tell me ,,,, you gotta get a chip,,, better fuel economy and more power,,, older diesel mechanics might tell you,,, more fuel more power but then your donk might not last ,,,, fit a catch can ,,, stops oily fumes from clogging up the erg valve or whatever they call it, maybe that's what the magic in a can cleans all my experience for you all to absorb

Nothing but problems with DPF....a 'local' guy (in WA) removes for around 500 bucks (quotes around 12k to replace) and never had a problem since.
In the bush, DPF is dangerous!

Can we know of the company ?

When i purchased my Colorado in 2015 all the so called experts that write car reviews bagged this model for not having DPF because all the other brands did. Lol it was a positive selling point for me :)

DPF or not the motor needs to breath with no obstruction to flow, be it dirty intake manifolds or as simple as a dirty air filter. Custom dyno map is the key and money well spent. The "generic" maps that come with many add on / bolt on re map units are fraught with danger . No two motors are the same so the map the vehicle comes with is a one map fits all rubbish. Keep in mind also that any changes to either intake or exhaust parameters can and will require re mapping be done.

Best Thing i have done With my Dmax, funnily though my younger brother bought a brand new Dmax in 2019 on the back of driving mine and has often bagged me about replacing the DPF, and also having it remapped etc, he has recentley had the same problem, and i might add h he is very carefull about servicing always used a certified Isuzu dealer and his DPF had shit the tin after 150000 kms so has followed the same route as me after being quoted over $2000 to replace, he has bought a caravan and is doing the big lap and claims the benefits pulling the 16' van are nothing short of remarkable , just another 2 cents worth from me.

If any body knows how to program Microchips, it can be done for a few dollars by taking the output from the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor, modifying it with the chip and dumping the result back to the Differential Pressure Sensor of the DPF. And removing the filter, which when fully efficient is very unrestrictive.
The 2mm holes is the easy bit, each hole is blocked alternately at either end. So the exhaust enters through one hole, passes through the wall of that tube and exits through the neighboring tube.
No smoke during burn off.

Try living on an island with a DPF and max speed is 50kph.
